Scar Treatment NYC

Above scar was only injected with corticosteroid. Scars often heal well with time but if raised the steroid injection can soften and flatten the scar.
A plastic surgeon referred the above patient to Dr. Shelton to improve the appearance of a flap used to reconstruct a deep and wide defect of her nose after Mohs surgery. The flap had a very good immediate post-operative appearance but over several weeks the flap became bulky. Massaging the flap and Injecting corticosteroids are typical treatments but often fail to make such bulky flaps improve sufficiently. Dr. Shelton used topical anesthetic without the need of injecting the nose and then performed ablative erbium laser resurfacing. The raw wound is treated with topical ointment for a week to two weeks until healed. This patient only needed one treatment. Redness can take several months to dissipate and can be treated with a different laser in the future if it doesn’t resolve adequately. This patient is so happy with her results that she would rather not pursue any additional treatment.
