Cellulite Treatment NYC

Qwo™- a prescription-only medicine in injectable form was recently approved by United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of moderate to severe cellulite in the buttock for women.

Endo Pharmaceuticals has invested about 8 years of research and more than a thousand subjects being treated to bring this cellulite treatment to the market.

"Endo recognized a significant unmet need for an effective and non-invasive injectable treatment for cellulite, which led us to conduct the largest clinical trials in the history of cellulite investigation in the United States," said Matthew Davis, senior vice president and chief medical officer of Endo.

What is Cellulite?

90% of women have cellulite. Cellulite is the dimpling of the skin around pockets of fat. Cellulite is not skin laxity, or sagging skin. Cellulite is caused by the outpouching of fat tissues under the skin.

Studies have shown that many people think they are responsible for their cellulite but this is an anatomical effect that now can be easily improved for most individuals with a series of 12 single injections in each buttock, given 21 days apart for three treatment sessions.

Why QWO is better than other treatment for Cellulite?

New York City-based board certified dermatologist Dr. Shelton says, compared to invasive procedures such as Cellfina, ThermiTight, liposuction, subcision and massage/energy based devices, Qwo is injected into the vertical collagen band that holds the skin down creating the dimple. Qwo uses an injectable form of collagenase clostridium histolyticum as its active ingredient.  It basically dissolves the fibrous collagen bands tethering the skin down.

You can see the collagen band dissolving in the images below:

After effects of QWO

The treatment is tolerable such that no anesthetic is needed.  Bruising will occur for virtually everyone so they have to expect this for a few weeks before it resolves. Most patients are encouraged to wear a compression garment such as Spanx® immediately after. Patients will also feel minor pain and areas of hardness or itching in the treated area.   Each session takes about 30 minutes. Following which patients can go about their day as they normally would.

Precautions

Avoid any blood thinners for a week prior to having the treatment.

Dr. Shelton expects that Qwo™ will be in high-demand when it launches spring 2021. You can call us at (212) 593-1818 and we would be happy to answer any questions relating to the procedure.
