Botox®, also referred to as botulinum toxin is one of the most popular non-invasive wrinkle reduction treatments in the market presently. Media often shows many stories about how far people can go with Botox®, getting a frozen look with zero expressions or movement on their faces. However, when properly administered by an experienced cosmetic dermatologist the treatment can deliver a more natural-looking and relaxed face!
Botox can help improve the appearance of wrinkles on the face
Botox®, with an off label usage can be injected to different parts of your body. In terms of your face;
- Across your eyebrows (for frown lines)
- Between your eyebrows
- Crow’s feet
- Under the eyes
- Bunny lines (the sides of your nose)
Botox® has been used to create tighter jaw lines, tighten loose sagging neck bands, lift up the sagging corners of the mouth and reduce the "gummy" smile. Although some people ignore these, if you are not a big fan of wrinkles, Botox® may be the best option for you to improve your appearance in the most natural way.
Natural look is the way to go!
Some people insist on excessive Botox® to look extremely young. However, this can end up with a paralyzed, doll-looking face. This is where you need the assistance of an experienced board-certified dermatologist. Dr Shelton always insists on going under, rather than over with Botox® in order to preserve his patient’s natural appearance. If you feel that your injection isn’t enough to achieve the look you desired, you can always go back for more. But with excessive Botox® you need to wait sometime to correct it. Botox® injections do not force your skin to move one way or the other, instead they work with your body. Consultation before treatment
Dr Shelton advises on a pre-consultation to do a thorough examination of your face. He will study the lines when you smile, frown or raise eyebrows to assess the problem areas accurately as well as to determine how many Botox® injections are required.
When to get Botox®?
Botox® can be effective for people in their mid-30s and 40s, as this is the time when the skin cell and collagen production taper off and aging signs become more noticeable. Treating wrinkles early may prevent them from forming on your face. For those in their 50s or 60s, Botox injections are recommended to soften the lines and give a more rejuvenated appearance.
If you are new to Botox® and concerned about looking overdone with Botox® injections, rest assured that Dr Shelton’s objective has always been to honor the patient’s health and natural beauty and to help them feel and look their absolute best.
A Botox® injection doesn’t require any kind of anaesthesia and it takes only a few minutes. It may take three to five days to see the results and 10 to 14 days to show full effects.
