If a tattoo is no longer desired on your skin Dr Shelton can help remove it with the use of latest PicoPlus tattoo removal technology.
PicoPlus by Lutronic is a multi-functional laser that is approved by FDA for the treatment of tattoo removal and pigmented lesions. It is a non-ablative treatment which offers faster results with picosecond and nanosecond pulse durations. With this laser technology even the most hard to remove tattoos of both black and colored can be lightened significantly, sometimes fully eliminated.
Is PicoPlus laser treatment safe?
PicoPlus is among the newest innovations in laser treatment. It is considered to be the safest and the best. Older methods for tattoo removals included dermabrasion or surgical removing. PicoPlus uses a laser which breaks the ink on your skin into small fragments which are easily removed by the body’s immune system leaving the skin with little or no scarring. There are no side effects such as swelling, bleeding nor infections with laser treatment.  The picosecond pulse from PicoPlus protects the surrounding tissues from thermal damage, and targets the area to break up pigment into easier forms for the body to process.
Picosecond technology is not new, it has been in existence for several years. However, Lutronic’s device has produced better results for Dr. Shelton and his patients compared to the underpowered earlier picosecond technologies . PicoPlus provides game-changing capabilities in removing tattoos especially for black and multi-color ink with fewer treatment sessions.
Are there any side effects?
After the treatment patients may experience temporary side effects such as mild swelling, redness, peeling or blistering. These will last only for a few hours. Every laser can risk hypo (lighter) and hyper (increased) pigmentation of the treated and adjacent skin. Scarring is very rare.
Is there a downtime?
Patients can resume their activities after the treatment. However, it is good to avoid getting exposed to sun to minimize hyper-pigmentation.
How many treatments are needed?
The number of PicoPlus treatment sessions will depend on your tattoo’s depth, size and age. On average, about 4 – 6 treatments will be required for best results, but more may be needed. This compares with the 12 + number of treatments needed with older lasers.

As the treatment is complicated it is best done by a certified medical professional. Prior to the treatment Dr Shelton will have a consultation to assess your tattoo.
