Lose neck fat under chin in NYC with CoolSculpting Mini and other treatments

Dr. Ron Shelton’s patients have many choices to eliminate one of the most common and visible signs of aging: Double Chin/Fat Neck.

Fat cells are responsive to outside stimuli, so flabby areas may be treated nonsurgically with controlled cooling and heat. A formulation designed to break down and absorb fat may be injected under the chin to remove excess without surgery.

As an author on the subject of liposuction, Dr. Shelton is well aware of and equipped to offer modern, safe surgical approaches. Be it tumescent liposuction, CoolSculpting™, Ultherapy®, ThermiTight™, or Kybella™ injections, there is most certainly an effective method to conveniently and safely regain youthful contours in Midtown.

CoolSculpting™

You can be very slim and still develop a double chin due to a genetic predisposition to excess fat between the head and neck. CoolSculpting™ is designed to target stubborn, localized fat that doesn’t budge even with proper exercise and nutrition.

Dr. Shelton has been using CoolSculpting™ for 5 years to treat areas of the body, such as the hips and thighs. CoolSculpting™ may now be used to slenderize areas of the face and neck, thanks to the CoolMini™. This applicator is designed to precisely deliver cooling temperatures to smaller areas, which causes the fat cells to crystallize and die. The Laser and Skin Surgery Center of NY was selected as a research site for CoolMini™, so while it was recently cleared by the FDA Dr. Shelton’s patients have already benefited from it.

Kybella™

The FDA recently approved Kybella™ as the first nonsurgical treatment to contour and improve the appearance of submental fullness, which is better known as a “double chin.”

This injectable solution contains deoxycholic acid. Naturally present in the body, this molecule breaks down and absorbs fat. Many patients notice improvement in the appearance of their chin and neckline within 2 to 4, 20-minute sessions scheduled at monthly intervals.

Ultherapy™ and ThermiTight™

Both of these treatments address a common cause of the appearance of a fat neck and double chin which is age related collagen loss. As you get older, less collagen and elastin proteins are produced naturally for skin firmness and elasticity. Ultherapy™ and ThermiTight™ stimulate the production of collagen lost to the natural aging process.

Ultherapy™ involves the application of ultrasound to the deeper layers of the skin, while ThermiTight™ uses Radiofrequency energy to heat targeted tissues, tighten skin, and reduce fatty lumps and bumps.

Ultrasound is delivered to deeper tissues via an Ultherapy™ device, which leaves surface skin untouched. The Radiofrequency energy associated with ThermiTight™ is delivered via a small probe inserted through a tiny incision. Improvements may be noticed immediately. Optimal results are seen gradually in the months following treatment.

Dr. Shelton may determine you are a good candidate for tumescent liposuction. This widely accepted approach uses a sterile solution to effectively and comfortably remove fat. Anesthetic eases discomfort, salt water helps with fat removal, and epinephrine constricts blood vessels to reduce the risk of hemorrhaging. Fat is suctioned out via a tube placed in the treated area through a small incision.

Since no one procedure is best to remove chin and neck fat or tighten saggy tissues in the submental area, it’s good to have many options to discuss with your board-certified dermatologist in Midtown, Dr. Ron Shelton. Call (212) 593-1818 to schedule a consultation.

Midtown patients shrink common, stubborn chin fat nonsurgically with Kybella

A double chin is almost as worrisome as under-eye wrinkles and more worrisome than smile lines, frown lines, and lax skin, according to the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. Two-thirds of the 8,300 respondents surveyed by the ASDS were “somewhat to extremely bothered by” submental fullness, the medical term for fat under the chin.

In addition to being a common problem, submental fullness can make you feel older and heavier than you actually are. In fact, people of all ages and physiques have excess chin fat. The tendency to develop fat along the jawline may run in your family. As you get older, your body produces less of the elastin protein that helps your skin retain its shape after it is stretched. Since many causes of submental fullness have nothing to do with lifestyle, this condition is known to be resistant to diet and exercise.

Thanks to the expertise of the Laser and Skin Surgery Center of NY, you can wave “Goodbye” to a double chin once and for all, no surgery required.

Introducing: Kybella

Many nonsurgical procedures administered by Dr. Ron Shelton are solutions injected through fine needles to plump up sunken areas of the face and to smooth creases. These types of injectable treatments include dermal fillers like Juvéderm™ and neuromodulators like Botox™. Kybella™ is an injectable procedure. It is used to improve the appearance of moderate to severe fat between the head and neck.

The secret ingredient behind Kybella™ is deoxycholic acid. This molecule can be found naturally in the body and aids in breaking down and absorbing fat. Kybella™ is not derived from human or animal sources, and is the first prescription nonsurgical treatment to be approved by the FDA for moderate to severe submental fat.

After ruling out any underlying medical conditions of the head and neck as the cause of submental fullness, Dr. Shelton will discuss your goals for treatment. The number of sessions and the average dose per session will depend on your pre-treatment chin profile and goals.

Generally, each treatment session involves placing a cold compress or numbing medication like lidocaine for added comfort to the treatment area. Dr. Shelton will inject Kybella™ into the fat under the chin, a procedure that typically requires no longer than 15 to 20 minutes.

Since the procedure is not invasive, you can get back to most activities without missing a beat. Lengthy preparations prior to treatment are not necessary, nor do you have to contend with unwanted complications following the procedure like you might with surgical interventions such as facelifts and liposuction.

Swelling, bruising, tenderness and a loss of sensation are characterized as the most common “adverse reactions.” In the capable hands of Dr. Shelton, the chances of developing these reactions are minimized, and if they do occur are temporary and limited to the injection site. Kybella™ must be combined with proper technique, as the safety and effectiveness of treatment depends on the correct placement of the needles and dosage of the formulation.

Introducing: A more youthful “you”

Deoxycholic acid stimulates a process that eventually causes the fat cells to die. Many patients experienced a noticeably smoother and toned chin in 2 to 4 sessions scheduled at monthly intervals. Almost 80 percent of Kybella™-treated patients were reportedly satisfied with the results of treatment, and experienced less embarrassment and self-conscious about the appearance of their face and neck.

What's next?

Once treated cells are destroyed, they cannot store or accumulate fat in the injection site so retreatment is not necessary. To schedule a consultation with Dr. Shelton in Midtown, call (212) 593-1818.
