What does the Fraxel™ Procedure do?

The Fraxel™ procedure is a laser treatment which enhances skin texture, reduces acne scars, improves pigmentation problems, and reduces wrinkles within a short period of time. The fractional laser was invented in the early 2000s. The entire skin in the treatment area is ablated or vaporized with a fractional laser, leaving the skin smoother and lighter. Although this is a deep treatment, the skin heals very quickly. This is because facial skin is healed by the adjoining skin, which produces new skin cells from the oil glands, sweat glands and hair shafts.

Depending on the intensity of the laser energy used, the skin can get a mild bronze shade, and slight flaking. But interestingly, the Fraxel™ laser treatment comes with a shorter recovery period compared to the old fashioned treatment which caused a second degree burn, taking almost twelve days to heal. Fraxel™ laser treatments are excellent for fine lines around the eyes and mouth as well. A laser hand piece touches the skin where a hundred tiny dots of laser beams perfect the skin.

You can take multiple treatments, provided you are not treating 100% of the surface area of the skin or the face. This treatment can result in dramatic improvements of acne scars. If you have very dark spots, this treatment will help even it out because of the collagen that's produced, making it look like a wind burn or a slight sun burn. With multiple treatments done about every two to three weeks, you will find your skin to be smoother, softer and noticeably clearer. For the deep acne scars, Fraxel™ treatment is recommended for a minimum of three week intervals. If your skin needs to be treated for brown discoloration and photo damage, we recommend treatments once a week or once every two weeks.

The Fraxel™ laser is projected to a very accurate, controlled depth, which makes the procedure safe. For this reason it is becoming increasingly popular and is an excellent way to reduce the risk of scarring or pigmentation problems.
