Can I get improvement in my upper eyelids by having Ulthera?

Currently, the Ulthera device treats the forehead which help lifts the forehead / eyebrow / eyelid complex. Ultherapy can directly treat the lower eyelid but there is no applicator designed to directly treat the upper eyelid. Many patients see an "opening" of their eyelids when they undergo Ultherapy. In no way, though, can this be considered the same effectiveness as surgical blepharoplasty in which the skin is removed to the exact dimension.

I have deep smile creases and my doctor has been treating me with fillers for years with good improvement but in the last few years there is less improvement. He says the face is continuing to sag and there is a limit to how much he can fill in the crease. He suggested a tightening procedure called Ultherapy. Is this usually successful?

The theory is correct for many patients whose facial tissues have sagged. Revolumization with fillers in the cheeks can help support the face and bring it up some more so that there is less folding over the smile creases. The additional correction can be with non-invasive facial tightening by using Ulthera. Ulthera is a high intensity ultrasound energy that penetrates deeply and tightens the tissues. Tightening occurs over several months and is not the same thing as a face lift, but can add to the improvement given to you without surgery. You will still need fillers for your smile creases, but the improvement may be better than you're currently seeing.

I have to go to a business meeting in two weeks. Can I have Ulthera on my face and travel then?

Yes, you can travel shortly after, even the next day, after Ultherapy, but some swelling and rarely, even bruising can occur, which should resolve in one week, two the latest. Swelling, if occurs, resolves in a few days after Ulthera but airplane travel can increase the swelling in the first few days. Certainly, in two weeks, probably several days already, you could travel after Ulthera without looking like you've been through a procedure. Most patients look fine the next day or two.

Can I have Ulthera done to tighten my legs?

Currently, in 2011, this is an off-label area in which to perform Ulthera, but a physician can determine that it might be worthwhile and they would discuss the risks with you.
