Botox™ Related Questions

Q: Can I have Botox injected in the same area as Juvederm™ or Restylane™?

A: Yes. I inject the filler first so that there is no disturbance of the botox™ or dysport™ injected material. Many times the filler is not injected in exactly the same place as the Botox™ or Dysport™. Sometimes it may help the filler last longer if the area is not that active, so the Botox™ or Dysport™ may minimize the movement of the muscle. This is a similar reason for doing Botox™ prior to laser resurfacing.

Q: I went to a medspa and they injected Botox™ in my forehead, but now my eyelids are puffy. What can be done to make it better?

A: You would need to be seen for an evaluation, but if the forehead was already droopy before the Botox™ treatment and the eyebrows had begun to sag bringing with them the loose upper eyelid skin, then you may be seeing a fullness or "swelling" in the upper eyelids because of the droop. This usually happens if the area between the eyebrows is not treated. That region is an area in which the muscles pull down the forehead so if we treat the glabella, between the eyebrows, with Botox™ it can help lift the forehead a little which may help elevate the eyebrows.

Q: My friend and I had Botox™ injected into the forehead but we had different areas injected and she had many more units than I but my lines are deeper. Why is this?

A: Every patient is different. You might think that as you have deeper lines you would need more Botox™ but possibly your lines that are deep can't be treated as they would interact negatively with the lower forehead and cause a droop affecting the upper eyelid position. In the end, the injector might have decided, appropriately, to treat only what was safe for you which was not as much as your friend's treatment even though your lines are deeper.
